Kazakhstan is accelerating the development of the Aktau and Kurik ports: the container hub will be completed in 2025.

The first phase of the container hub at the Port of Aktau, being built jointly with the Chinese company Port Lianyungang, will be completed by the end of 2025, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Transport Nurlan Sauranbayev announced at a government meeting. The project envisages increasing the hub’s capacity to 200,000 TEUs per year, while dredging and berth modernization are simultaneously underway at the port.

According to the Minister of Transport, all of the country’s trans-border hubs are already equipped with the necessary transport infrastructure. As part of the development of the Caspian hub, the ports of Aktau and Kuryk are being actively modernized, including the renovation of their railway approaches.

The Sarzha multifunctional terminal project is being implemented at the Port of Kuryk. To increase container traffic through the Caspian Sea by 2027, Kazakhstan plans to purchase two container ships with a capacity of 700 TEUs each from Azerbaijan. These initiatives, according to the minister, will increase the combined throughput capacity of the Aktau and Kuryk ports to 30 million tons.
