Lineas and FS Logistix have launched the Modalink joint venture in the Port of Antwerp.

The official opening of Modalink, a joint venture between Lineas and FS Logistix, took place at the Port of Antwerp. The ceremony took place at the Mainhub terminal in the presence of Federica Favi, Ambassador of Italy to Belgium; Tanja Bruynseels, Deputy Director of the Cabinet for Mobility; Eric Van Ockenburg, CEO of Lineas; and Sabrina De Filippis, CEO of FS Logistix, along with key customers, partners, and employees. The launch of Modalink underscores the strategic importance of this partnership in building a more connected, efficient, and sustainable logistics system in Europe.

The partners view the Mainhub terminal in Antwerp as a key asset in European supply chains. The facility boasts 200,000 square meters of operational space, eight 700-meter-long railway tracks, three gantry cranes, and six straddle carriers, with a throughput capacity of up to 200,000 containers per year. This equipment allows the terminal to play a key role in the development of environmentally friendly and sustainable freight transport on the continent.

Modalink’s primary objective will be to develop intermodal transport and strengthen the North-South transport corridor connecting Belgium with Italy and southern European countries. The project plans to establish five weekly round trips between Antwerp and Milan, which will take over 13,000 trucks off the road annually and reduce CO₂ emissions by over 46,000 tons. Furthermore, the connection will be integrated with other Italian terminals, including Pomezia, Marcianise, and Catania. Modalink is 70% owned by Lineas and 30% by FS Logistix, reflecting the parties’ long-term commitment to developing sustainable European logistics.
