The Port of Klaipeda is strengthening its cooperation with the Port of Valencia to expand international ties.

During their visit to Spain, the Lithuanian delegation is working to deepen cooperation between the Port of Klaipėda and the Port of Valencia, one of the leading logistics hubs in the Mediterranean. The main goal of the talks was to strengthen the international position of the Port of Klaipėda through the exchange of experience in developing port infrastructure and joint efforts to attract additional cargo flows. The Lithuanian Ministry of Transport and Communications emphasizes the strategic importance of the Port of Klaipėda for the country and the need to consider best international practices when making development decisions.

The Port of Valencia has a well-developed route network, modern infrastructure, and an annual cargo throughput of approximately 80 million tons, including over 5 million TEU containers per year. It also actively implements green initiatives. The Klaipėda Seaport Authority notes that partnership with such a major player opens up opportunities to increase the Port of Klaipėda’s visibility in international markets and integrate it into existing maritime corridors linking the Mediterranean with remote regions.

The Port of Klaipėda is preparing for the largest expansion in its history – the development of approximately 100 hectares of land in the southern part of the port. The experience of the Port of Valencia, which has already implemented a similar project, is seen as an important source of expertise for the effective implementation of these plans and the implementation of environmentally friendly solutions. In 2025, Spain accounted for almost 2% of the port’s cargo turnover – approximately 723,000 tons, primarily grain and agricultural cargo, container shipments, and LNG.
