Transnet has agreed to collaborate with the Port of Antwerp-Bruges to modernise South African ports.

South Africa’s state-owned logistics group Transnet signed a memorandum of understanding with the Antwerp-Bruges Port Authority and the Antwerp-Flanders Port Education Centre (APEC). The document, signed during the World Economic Forum in Davos, aims to develop cooperation in modernizing South Africa’s port infrastructure.

The agreement provides for joint efforts to improve port operational efficiency, implement digital solutions, develop sustainable practices, and conduct strategic infrastructure planning and transport corridor development. Particular attention is paid to the exchange of expertise and the use of international experience in port asset management.

Furthermore, the memorandum includes staff training programs and consulting support from Belgian partners. Transnet CEO Michelle Phillips noted that cooperation with the Port of Antwerp-Bruges will accelerate the modernization of South Africa’s ports and strengthen the country’s position in regional and global trade by implementing best international practices.
