Montan Spedition launches Linz–Duisburg–Rotterdam block trains.

Montan Speditions has introduced a new multimodal rail connection between Linz, Duisburg and Rotterdam in 2026.

The service includes daily feeder trains to and from Kapfenberg, Vienna South and Villach South, enabling cargo to connect to the westbound block trains. Each round trip will use 19 four-axle container wagons, providing 38 loading positions for 30-foot containers from the company’s MOCO (Montan Container) fleet.

The connection targets shippers in the heavy goods, recycling and mining sectors transporting bulk, craneable or heavy palletised cargo. Pre- and onward carriage will be handled by truck, while the main leg between Austria and western Europe will run by rail.

The trains will be shorter than 400 metres, a configuration the company says allows routing around current construction sites on the German network.

The new service links the Linz region with the Rhine-Ruhr area and the Port of Rotterdam, providing a direct rail option between Austrian industrial sites and western European logistics hubs.
