APM Terminals has launched a container rail shuttle between Helsingborg and the Port of Gothenburg, with operations starting in February.
The shuttle is owned by APM Terminals and connects Helsingborg directly to Sweden’s largest container port. The company states that the service is designed to provide importers and exporters in southern Sweden with a fixed rail link to the Gothenburg container terminal.
The Port of Gothenburg is connected by rail to nearly 30 inland terminals across Sweden through its Railport Scandinavia system. In 2025, 529,000 TEU were transported to and from the port by rail, the highest annual volume recorded at the facility.
According to the port authority, around 60% of container volumes to and from the Port of Gothenburg move by rail. Railport Scandinavia links inland terminals to the port, allowing containers to be transferred between rail and deep-sea services at the Gothenburg container terminal.
The new Helsingborg shuttle adds further capacity to the network and integrates the Helsingborg region into the national rail-based container system centred on Gothenburg.
