Schiphol and KLM are launching a major transformation of the airport’s cargo and infrastructure network.

Royal Schiphol Group and KLM have signed an agreement to relocate KLM’s cargo operations from the Schiphol Centre area to a cargo zone on the opposite side of the Kaagbaan runway, and to move catering facilities to the Schiphol North area. These measures are part of a major airport upgrade and support the implementation of the Schiphol Centre master plan.

As part of a long-term development strategy, the airport is set to transform into a more sustainable, high-quality hub over the next 25 years. The plan aims to improve services for passengers and airlines, reduce noise impact, enhance environmental sustainability, and create space for larger aircraft and the future South Terminal. Furthermore, the parties are jointly investing in strengthening the cargo sector and developing aviation logistics in the Netherlands.

KLM’s cargo operations will move to the new “Vracht 15” complex in the airport’s southeast, where a modern, centralized, and more efficient cargo handling zone is being created, featuring improved working conditions and sustainable solutions. Plans also include relocating KLM Catering Services and Topside facilities to new sites within the airport. Following the agreement, the parties will proceed with designing the new cargo complex, launching an architectural tender, and implementing the phases related to operational relocation and Schiphol Centre infrastructure development.
