Baltic Hub, a container terminal within the PSA Group, has signed an agreement with Poland’s Centre for EU Transport Projects to secure PLN 220.6 million in funding for the electrification and modernization of its terminal complex in Gdańsk. The grant will cover nearly 40% of the project’s total estimated cost of PLN 554 million.
The investment program entails transitioning some terminal operations to electric technology, expanding rail infrastructure, and implementing advanced digital management and monitoring systems. As part of the project, Baltic Hub will acquire additional quay and yard cranes and a fleet of electric terminal tractors, as well as carry out construction work to develop the terminal’s rail infrastructure. Implementing these measures will increase the facility’s throughput capacity, enhance intermodal transport efficiency, and reduce the terminal’s environmental impact.
The funding was awarded through a call for proposals for intermodal transport development under the “European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate, Environment” (FEnIKS) program for 2021–2027. Baltic Hub CEO Jan Van Mossevelde noted that the project marks a significant milestone in the terminal’s development and aligns with the PSA Group’s “Node to Network” strategy, which aims to create an efficient global transport network. He stated that the modernization would strengthen Baltic Hub’s role as a key port hub in Central and Eastern Europe and accelerate the company’s transition toward more sustainable and efficient operations.
