DHL Express has opened a new international hub at Barcelona Airport.

DHL Express officially opened its new international hub at Barcelona-El Prat Airport. The €80 million project, completed in less than two years, is the company’s largest investment in the region. The new facility can handle over 20,000 shipments per hour—seven times its previous capacity—and will accommodate the growing volume of international express deliveries and strengthen Barcelona’s position in DHL’s global network.

The 29,000 m² hub connects routes to Europe, the Americas, and North Africa, ensuring the competitiveness of over 20,000 Spanish companies, a fifth of which are based in Catalonia. It features 22 loading bays and 9 unloading bays for air containers, as well as 24 truck docks, with 120 vans deployed daily for delivery and collection. The facility meets the highest security standards and is equipped with modern scanning systems, individual inspection of each parcel, and a dedicated customs area.

The new hub is not only a strategic project but also an environmental one for DHL: solar panels, charging stations for electric vans and ground handling equipment, and water recycling and energy management systems have been installed. The company emphasizes that the facility was built with an eye toward long-term development, supporting e-commerce, and achieving DHL Group’s goals to reduce CO₂ emissions and transition to sustainable fuels by 2030.
