DP World is expanding its presence in Romania, strengthening its European trade hub.

DP World’s expansion in Romania signals a significant stride in bolstering the nation’s role as a pivotal hub for European trade. With a €65 million investment, two new facilities have been unveiled in Constanta, the largest container port on the Black Sea. These include a 5-hectare cargo terminal catering to heavy, large, and complex cargo, along with a ‘roll-on, roll-off’ terminal capable of handling up to 80,000 vehicles annually. Additionally, a €50 million multi-transport platform is slated to open in Constanta by 2025. Another €21 million investment has resulted in the establishment of an 8-hectare intermodal logistics hub in Aiud, fortifying connectivity between rail and road networks.

These developments not only enhance DP World’s existing sea, rail, barge, and truck services but also facilitate smoother movement of goods across mainland Europe and the Black, North, and Adriatic Seas. Having invested over €250 million in Romania since 2004, DP World’s commitment to the region is evident, with support from the European Union. As DP World commemorates its 20th year in Romania, it celebrates the nation’s rapid development, now ranking as Eastern Europe’s second-largest economy.

The latest investments are poised to attract major businesses, fostering ‘nearshoring’ and ‘reshoring’ trends prevalent in Europe. Notably, the automotive manufacturing sector, comprising 13% of Romanian GDP, is witnessing significant growth, with key players like Mercedes-Benz, Dacia, and Ford expanding operations. This trend extends to neighboring countries like Hungary, Poland, and Turkey, underlining the importance of robust supply chains and logistics infrastructure. DP World’s recent ventures in Romania are part of a broader strategy to enhance capacity and offer faster, more resilient supply chain solutions across Europe, complementing similar endeavors in terminals such as Antwerp, Novi Sad, and London Gateway.
