As part of her summer tour, Federal Minister for Economics Katharina Reiche visited the Port of Hamburg, where she learned about current projects, innovative technologies and the challenges facing one of Germany’s key logistics hubs. She emphasized the strategic importance of the port for the country’s economy and announced her intention to increase state support for port infrastructure.
Some of the additional funding is planned to be allocated from the Climate and Transformation Fund, with a special focus on environmentally friendly modernization and sustainable technologies. During the visit, the importance of investments from special federal funds to ensure the competitiveness of the port was also emphasized.
Accompanied by representatives of the maritime industry and politics, Reiche discussed ways to strengthen Hamburg’s role as an international transport hub. The German government’s maritime coordinator Christoph Ploss noted the high financial needs of the industry and the need for close cooperation between the federal center, the regions and the port industry.
