HHLA launched the Blue Port anniversary project in Hamburg.

The logistics group HHLA has officially opened the Blue Port light installation, which has been painting the Port of Hamburg in blue tones every two years since 2008. This year, the project is dedicated to the 140th anniversary of the company and symbolizes its international network. The official start was given in the evening with the participation of HHLA CEO Angela Titzrath, Hamburg Senator for Economic Affairs Melanie Leonhard and the artist Michael Batz.

Residents and visitors to the city will be able to enjoy the light show until September 21: the Altenwerder, Burchardkai, Tollerort and O’Swaldkai terminals, as well as 10 cranes in the historic Speicherstadt district and the HHLA headquarters building, are painted blue. A total of 17 container cranes were illuminated, creating a unique atmosphere in the port and the Hamburg harbor.

The blue container, which became the symbol of the project, travelled more than 13,000 km through the European network of HHLA: it visited the ports of Trieste and Tallinn, as well as the METRANS terminals in Prague and Dunajská Streda. For the first time, Blue Port was joined by facilities outside Hamburg – the HHLA TK Estonia cranes in the port of Muuga and the METRANS railway cranes in Prague. In this way, the company underlined its motto “The Power of Networks” and the importance of Hamburg as an international logistics hub.
