In 2025, Kazakhstan implemented a series of major infrastructure initiatives in transport and logistics aimed at strengthening the country’s transit role and developing international routes. In the railway sector, the 836-kilometer Dostyk-Moiynty line was commissioned, increasing capacity on the Kazakhstan-China route fivefold. Construction of the Almaty bypass line is nearing completion, and key projects have been initiated and are ongoing on the Moiynty-Kyzylzhar, Darbaza-Maktaral, and Ayagoz-Bakhty sections, laying the foundation for further growth in freight traffic.
Significant work was also completed in the road sector. Over the course of the year, approximately 13,000 kilometers of roads were repaired, and important sections of the Kalbatau-Maikapshagay, Uzynagash-Otar, and Kyzylorda-Zhezkazgan routes were completed. Construction and modernization of highways in the Ulytau region, as well as the construction of a bridge across the Irtysh River, are ongoing. In addition, medium-term repairs are planned for another 10,000 km of national highways in 2026. A parallel program to upgrade railway stations is being implemented: modernization covers 124 facilities, with construction and installation work at 46 stations scheduled to be completed by 2025.
The development of multimodal logistics is complemented by projects in the maritime and aviation sectors. Construction of a container hub in the port of Aktau, as well as the Poti TransTerminal terminal in the Georgian port of Poti, has been completed, strengthening Kazakhstan’s position on international transport corridors. In aviation, the level of compliance with ICAO safety standards has reached 95.7%. Aktau Airport’s infrastructure has been renovated and reopened, and construction of new airports in Zaysan, Katon-Karagay, and Kenderli continues, as well as the reconstruction of the airports of Pavlodar, Balkhash, and Arkalyk.
