Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have agreed on measures to increase rail transit.

The Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan held talks with the head of the transport department of Uzbekistan on expanding transit potential and developing railway cooperation. The meeting was held as part of efforts to increase Kazakhstan’s transit traffic to 55 million tonnes. The parties noted the strategic role of rail traffic between the countries in strengthening trade and economic ties, international transit, and regional transport integration.

By the end of 2025, the volume of rail traffic between the two countries reached 32.3 million tonnes, a 16% increase compared to the previous year. To ensure further growth, the parties agreed on a joint action plan, which includes infrastructure development at key junctions in Saryagash, Oasis, and Syrdarya, as well as the completion of major projects, including the construction of the Darbaza-Maktaral section.

Currently, up to 36 pairs of trains pass through Saryagash per day, with plans to increase this to 40. On the Oasis route, the figure is expected to increase from two to ten pairs, and through Syrdarya, it will reach ten pairs after the commissioning of the new railway section. The parties also discussed synchronizing repair and infrastructure work, improving control procedures, and optimizing technological interaction, confirming their intention to continue coordination and increase transportation volumes.
