Khorgos Gateway is implementing a range of environmental measures to protect the region’s water resources.

Khorgos Gateway, the largest dry port in Central Asia, located in the Khorgos River basin – a tributary of the Ili River, one of the region’s key water supplies – is consistently implementing a large-scale environmental program. All activities are carried out in strict compliance with the laws of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the requirements of the Khorgos-Eastern Gate SEZ. The company emphasizes that environmental protection and the rational use of natural resources are integral to the sustainable development of the logistics hub.

Reducing the load on water resources remains a priority for Khorgos Gateway. Modern water metering and monitoring systems have been installed throughout the complex, optimizing its use in technological processes, including equipment cleaning and maintenance of service areas. Particular attention is paid to stormwater management: a modern stormwater drainage system with oil and sand traps is in operation, and wastewater quality is regularly monitored to prevent pollutants from entering the soil and water bodies, including the Khorgos River.

The company also strictly manages hazardous waste, using sealed containers, specialized storage areas, and partnering with licensed waste disposal operators. As part of its environmental initiatives, Khorgos Gateway actively participates in the “Taza Kazakhstan” campaign, planting 500 trees in 2025, and implements internal projects for separate waste collection and battery recycling. Having a comprehensive set of environmental documentation and regular industrial environmental monitoring allow the company to make a significant contribution to the conservation of the ecosystems of the Khorgos and Ili river basins, confirming its commitment to ESG and sustainable development principles.
