Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd are rerouting their Gemini service via the Red Sea and Suez Canal.

A.P. Moller – Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd have decided to reroute one of their joint services within the Gemini collaboration, diverting it via the Red Sea and Suez Canal with naval escorts throughout. This service, ME11, connects India and the Middle East with the Mediterranean. The changes will take effect in mid-February: on the westbound route, the Albert Maersk will operate, and on the eastbound route, the Astrid Maersk.

In addition, Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd are considering the possibility of subsequently diverting the AE12 and AE15 services via the Red Sea and Suez Canal, if operational and security conditions permit. Additional information for customers and other stakeholders will be provided as soon as available. No other changes to the Gemini network related to the Red Sea are currently planned.

The companies emphasize that the introduction of new routes will be carried out with minimal disruption to customers and while maintaining the high schedule reliability that is a key characteristic of the Gemini Cooperation. The safety of crews, vessels, and cargo remains an absolute priority, and the situation in the Middle East region will continue to be constantly monitored. The operational partnership between Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd, under the Gemini Cooperation format, was officially launched on February 1, 2025, and covers 29 joint liner and 29 shuttle services on East-West routes.
