Milence and port of Antwerp-Bruges forge partnership to establish 30-Bay charging hub for heavy-duty vehicles

Milence, a collaboration between Daimler Truck, Volvo Group, and the TRATON GROUP, has been chosen by the Port of Antwerp-Bruges to construct two cutting-edge charging hubs at Truck Parking Goordijk and Ketenis. Emerging as a significant player in developing Europe’s most extensive public charging network for battery-electric heavy-duty trucks, Milence’s hubs in the Antwerp Port area are set to open in May 2024 with an initial 30 charging bays, with plans to expand in a subsequent phase.

These charging hubs will feature 15 high-performance Combined Charging System (CCS) chargers initially, delivering up to 400kW of charging power, with Milence eyeing a swift transition to Megawatt Charging System (MCS) technology as it becomes available. Milence’s strategic focus is on creating green corridors connecting major logistics hubs, ports, and airports, aligning with Port of Antwerp-Bruges, the second largest port in Europe, boasting over 300 maritime liner services and 800 destinations.

Milence’s mission is to expedite the shift to electric transport by establishing a reliable and secure charging network for heavy-duty electric trucks. Their holistic approach emphasizes not only powering vehicles but also providing a restful environment for drivers. Driver comfort and safety are shared priorities for Milence and Port of Antwerp-Bruges, evident in the well-equipped, secure truck parking areas inaugurated in March 2023.
