Успешное завершение первого тестового рейса поезда из Киева до терминала BILK группы Rail Cargo в Будапеште является важным шагом на пути к созданию надежного и регулярного интермодального сообщения между двумя городами, которое может начать работу к концу 2023 года. Используя технологию r2L от VTG и VEGA, тестовый поезд осуществил перевозку некранируемых полуприцепов со строительными материалами. Rail Cargo Group, in collaboration with Ukrainian Railways, developed this service, and the test results met expectations. The next steps involve incorporating the service into regular timetables and evaluating its economic feasibility, considering that the use of advanced technologies may lead to higher costs. ÖBB Rail Cargo Group presented plans for connecting Kyiv and Vienna in May, formalizing the initiative through a memorandum of understanding with Ukrainian Railways on September 14. The agreement entrusts Ukrainian Railways with managing operations within Ukraine, while RCG oversees procedures in the European Union. Despite a slight delay compared to the initially planned August testing, the successful completion of the test train indicates progress in realizing this crucial railway connection.
