The port of Klaipeda will become the base for the construction of Lithuania’s offshore wind farms.

Large-scale infrastructure preparation for future offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea has begun at the Port of Klaipėda. Tilsta is reconstructing the berths on the site of the former international ferry terminal, creating areas for the assembly, processing, and storage of wind turbine components. The project is being implemented under an agreement between the Port Authority and Klasco, signed in May 2022.

According to plans, by the end of 2026, the Port of Klaipėda is expected to become a key servicing base for the country’s wind energy projects. This will provide Lithuania with a reliable logistics hub for implementing green initiatives and strengthen the port’s position as a strategic asset in the region.

By 2035, two offshore wind farms with a combined capacity of approximately 1.4 GW will be operational in Lithuania’s exclusive economic zone off the coast of Palanga. These will be capable of producing up to 6 TWh of electricity annually, covering approximately half of the country’s current needs. The first tender for the construction of a 700 MW wind farm was won by a consortium of Ignitis Renewables and OW Offshore S.L.
