Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev heard a report from Talgat Aldybergenov, Chairman of the Board of JSC NC KTZ, on the national railway company’s performance in 2025. During the meeting, it was noted that tariff freight turnover increased by 10% to 289 billion tonne-kilometers, while total freight volume increased by 5.5% to 320 million tonnes. Export freight exceeded 89 million tonnes, while transit freight increased by more than 20% to 33 million tonnes, confirming Kazakhstan’s growing role as a key transit hub.
In 2025, KTZ continued its active infrastructure development. The commissioned second tracks on the Dostyk-Moiynty section carried approximately 6 million tonnes of freight, or over 100,000 railcars. Traffic was also opened on the bypass line of the Almaty station railway hub. Overall, construction and modernization projects cover 3,900 km of railway lines, aimed at increasing network capacity and resilience.
Special attention was paid to the digital transformation of KTZ, where digital solutions, including artificial intelligence technologies, are being implemented at all levels to improve safety, efficiency, and transparency. The company has introduced a mentoring program and formed a youth talent pool. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized the importance of social issues and supported the initiative to build affordable housing for railway workers, while instructing the company to continue transforming KTZ, expand cooperation with international partners, implement digital technologies, and develop infrastructure for multimodal logistics.
