According to the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs under the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey, the total cargo turnover of Turkish ports in the first four months of 2025 amounted to 181.9 million tons, which is 1.4% more than in the same period of 2024. However, in April, the figure decreased by 3.2% to 43.65 million tons.
The leaders in terms of transshipment volume in April were the ports of Aliaga (7.49 million tons), Kocaeli (7.26 million tons), Iskenderun (5.54 million tons), Ceyhan and Mersin (3.87 million tons each), Tekirdag (3.75 million tons) and Ambarli (2.7 million tons). The top ten ports handled 85.1% of all cargo – 37.1 million tons.
Portland cement, clinker, diesel fuel, feldspar and coiled sheet dominated the exported goods. The main destinations for Turkish exports were Italy, the United States, Egypt, Spain and Greece. The leading imports were oil, anthracite, scrap metal, diesel fuel and iron ore. Container turnover increased by 3% in April to 1.09 million TEU, but decreased by 0.7% to 4.4 million TEU over the four months.
