The Development Bank of Kazakhstan (DBK) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) have developed a memorandum of understanding focused on supporting projects in Central Asia aimed at strengthening transport links with Europe. Particular attention is paid to the infrastructure of the Trans-Caspian international transport route and “green” projects, such as the development of sea and air freedom.

The next step after signing the memorandum will be the conclusion of an agreement on financing alternative projects by the EIB. This event took place within the framework of the Global Forum on Transport Communications of the European Region and Central Asia, which involved representatives of government agencies, financial institutions and public societies from various countries.

This initiative is part of the EU’s Global Gateway strategy, aimed at reducing investment and developing connections in the digital, energy and transport sectors. It is planned to attract up to 300 billion euros of investment in the period from 2021 to 2027. The cooperation between DBK and the EIB, laid down in the memorandum, provides for a period until the end of 2027, subject to extension if the parties are interested.
