According to the head of the department of the Center for Strategic Studies of the Turkish Foreign Ministry, Turhan Dilmas, the capacity of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line will more than triple by 2034 – from the current 5 million to 17 million tons of cargo per year.
Dilmas noted that Turkey will continue to strengthen cooperation with Azerbaijan and the Central Asian countries to expand the capabilities of the Middle Corridor, which provides effective transport links between Europe and Asia.
He emphasized that the Middle Corridor project is fully consistent with China’s One Belt, One Road initiative and has been under Ankara’s special attention from the very beginning, demonstrating the strategic importance of the route for the region.
