According to a report by AICAI (Associazione Italiana Corrieri Aerei Internazionali), prepared in collaboration with Bocconi University in Milan, international express carriers DHL, FedEx, and UPS play a pivotal role in Italy’s competitiveness within the global economy. In 2024, their contribution to the country’s GDP is estimated at approximately €3.6 billion, with a total economic impact exceeding €10.1 billion. Last year alone, these companies facilitated the export of goods valued at €24.4 billion, representing 27.8% of all Italian exports transported by air.

The air freight sector has a broad impact on the national economy, involving over 120,000 companies and approximately 4.37 million people employed in export supply chains. The report indicates that the combined direct, indirect, and induced effects support around 44,000 jobs. AICAI express operators not only provide rapid logistics solutions but also foster the development of innovative services that support international trade.

The study was presented on June 10 at the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy in Rome. The meeting addressed the future prospects of air freight logistics and its role in the continued growth of exports and the internationalization of Italian companies, highlighting how speed, reliability, and global connectivity are becoming key drivers of economic development.
