Ukrzaliznytsia, together with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, with EU support, signed two grant agreements totaling €54 million to implement three strategic development areas for Ukraine’s railway system. According to Oleksiy Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction and Development of Ukraine and Minister of Communities and Territories Development, the funds are intended to improve infrastructure accessibility, strengthen energy independence, and develop human capital.

As part of the program, €10 million is earmarked for improving the inclusiveness of railway stations and creating a barrier-free environment for passengers, including veterans and people with disabilities. An additional €41 million will be allocated for the purchase of gas piston power plants, which will increase in-house power generation and enhance the energy sustainability of the railway system. An additional €3 million will be invested in the creation of a modern Ukrzaliznytsia Corporate Academy.

According to Oleksiy Kuleba, agreements on the project were reached last July at the Conference on Ukraine’s Reconstruction in Rome. The initiative’s implementation is expected not only to modernize infrastructure but also to establish new corporate training through the UZ Academy, as well as to ensure greater inclusiveness and personnel development within the company.
