Maersk has adjusted its schedule and processes ahead of China’s “Golden Week”.

In anticipation of the national holiday in China from October 1 to 7, 2025, when many factories, ports, and customs offices temporarily suspend operations, Maersk has taken measures to minimize the impact of the “golden week” on customers. The company has adjusted the schedule of services between the Far East and Europe and temporarily rerouted the AE12 line in the Adriatic region: vessels now call in Rijeka before the port of Koper.

The World Bank estimated the development needs of the Trans-Caspian route at $28 billion.

At the 1st Azerbaijan International Investment Forum, held in September 2025, a World Bank representative stated that approximately $28 billion would be required to develop the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) over the next 15 years. Of this, $25 billion is planned for modernizing rail infrastructure and $1.8 billion for developing port capacity. The route’s main bottleneck remains the junction of sea and rail transport due to limited capacity and differences in infrastructure across participating countries.

Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye signed a memorandum on cargo transportation via BTK.

During Transport Week in Almaty, Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways, Lasha Abashidze, CEO of Georgian Railways, and Ufuk Yalçın, Chairman of the Board and CEO of TCDD Taşımacılık, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to organize freight transportation via the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars (BTK) railway. The document aims to increase the route’s competitiveness, attract additional freight traffic by optimizing delivery times, ensure stable transportation conditions, and implement transparent tariffs.

The Port of Hamburg is strengthening its ties with Baden-Württemberg.

DB Cargo and Boluda Shipping have agreed to transfer part of their business to Transfesa Logistics.

As part of the DB Group’s transformation, DB Cargo, the majority shareholder of Transfesa Logistics, will transfer some of its operations to its Spanish subsidiary, Boluda Shipping. The EBRD will invest up to €35 million in the modernization of the Aktau port.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will provide up to €35 million to upgrade the handling facilities of the port of Aktau, Kazakhstan’s key transit hub on the eastern coast of the Caspian Sea. The project is part of the development of the trans-Caspian logistics corridor, which will ensure stable transportation between Europe and Central Asia. The European Union may also provide a grant of up to €10 million through the regional APIF, bringing the total funding to €45 million.

Straubing-Sand Port opens new combined transport terminal.

After several years of planning and an intensive, yet brief, construction phase, the new combined transport terminal at the Port of Straubing-Sand was officially opened on September 30. Ulrich Lange, Member of the Bundestag and Parliamentary State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transport, led the opening ceremony, along with representatives from politics and business. The Federal Government supported the project with approximately €19 million, representing approximately 79% of the total eligible investment.

Maersk: China increases share of global container trade to 37%.

The latest Maersk Global Market Update notes that Chinese exports continue to drive growth in global container shipping. In the first half of 2025, China’s share of global trade reached 37%, with shipments to Latin America, Africa, and Europe growing significantly. In Latin America, China’s share increased from 27% in 2019 to 38% in 2025, in Africa from 32% to 39%, and in Europe, the share of Chinese goods in containerized imports rose to 40%. The main demand is driven by technology, mechanical engineering, metallurgy, and chemicals.
