From October 2024, DFDS and Volvo Trucks will implement a joint project to switch container transport between Volvo’s logistics center in Ghent and the sea terminals of the port of Antwerp to a night schedule. The use of heavy electric trucks allows for emission-free trips during off-peak hours, relieving the transport network and increasing the efficiency of the entire supply chain.
By the end of 2025, Kazakhstan plans to implement a number of major projects in the transport and logistics sector. According to Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar, the priority is to complete the construction of a bypass road for oversized cargo at the Nur Zholy border crossing, modernize the Dostyk-Moiynty railway section and the bypass line of the Almaty station.
Rhenus Group has officially opened its high-tech logistics centre in Venlo, the Netherlands, strengthening its position in Europe and setting a new standard in sustainable and efficient logistics. The almost 72,000 m² facility combines warehousing, cross-docking and regional distribution under one roof, providing storage for up to 28,000 pallets and reducing delivery times.
The Swiss subsidiary of the German MBS Logistics Group has acquired the Zurich-based Gerhard Wegmüller GmbH with retroactive effect from January 1, 2025. The deal aims to strengthen MBS’s position in the express logistics segment, including aviation, aerospace, pharmaceuticals and medical technology.
SBB Cargo is launching the first shuttle service under the Suisse Cargo Logistics strategy, connecting Dietikon (near Zurich) and Stabio (Ticino). Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) recorded significant growth in the first quarter of 2025, despite the ongoing economic downturn in Germany, a tense geopolitical situation and uncertainty in global trade. The holding’s total revenue increased by 19.8% to €435.6 million, while operating profit (EBIT) increased by 86.6% to €32.5 million. Net profit after tax amounted to €7.9 million, compared to a loss of €1.1 million a year earlier. HHLA CEO Angela Titzrath noted that the rail container segment, a key area of the strategy to strengthen the European logistics network, showed particularly strong results.
According to Eurostat, the economy of the 20 eurozone countries grew by 0.4% in the first quarter of 2025, beating forecasts of only 0.2%. However, experts point out that this result is largely distorted – a significant contribution to the overall statistics was made by Ireland, where GDP grew by 3.2% due to the activity of multinational corporations operating in the country for tax reasons.
KTZ Express, together with the Port of Lianyungang and the Aktau Sea Trade Port, have launched a project to build a new container hub in Aktau. At a working meeting, representatives of the companies discussed key organizational and technical aspects of the first stage of construction, the completion of which is scheduled for the end of 2025.
