Latvijas dzelzceļš is upgrading the Tornakalns–Imanta section to launch a railway connection with Riga Airport.

The Latvian State Railways SJSC “Latvijas dzelzceļš” has announced a tender for the design and construction of modernized infrastructure on the Torņakalns–Imanta section. This is the first stage of the implementation of the broad gauge (1520 mm) line connecting Riga Central Station with RIX International Airport. The work includes updating the contact network, signaling systems and building new passenger platforms with comfortable and accessible infrastructure.

SOVICO Group may take over management of Kyzylorda airport.

Vietnamese SOVICO Group is negotiating the transfer of Kyzylorda Airport to trust management. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Alibek Bakayev, emphasizing that the deal does not provide for the sale of the asset – the Vietnamese side will temporarily manage the airport to improve its efficiency.

A trilateral meeting of representatives of the railway administrations of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan was held in Kazakhstan, dedicated to improving the efficiency of freight transportation. The meeting was attended by delegations led by Erbol Tusupov (KTZ – Freight Transportation), Abduvali Kodirov (Uzbekistan Temir Yollari) and Radzhabmurad Odinayev (Rohi Ohani Tojikiston).

EWD Benli Recycling opens Germany’s first large-capacity ship recycling plant.

EWD Benli Recycling has received official approval for the construction of Germany’s first ship dismantling and recycling plant. The new facility will be located in Emden on the premises of the Emder Werft und Dock (EWD) shipyard, which is owned by the project’s parent company. The approval process lasted almost a year, and now the company is officially recognized as a specialized waste management operator.

HHLA is showing strong growth despite unstable geopolitics and a weak German economy.

Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) recorded significant growth in the first quarter of 2025, despite the ongoing economic downturn in Germany, a tense geopolitical situation and uncertainty in global trade. The holding’s total revenue increased by 19.8% to €435.6 million, while operating profit (EBIT) increased by 86.6% to €32.5 million. Net profit after tax amounted to €7.9 million, compared to a loss of €1.1 million a year earlier. HHLA CEO Angela Titzrath noted that the rail container segment, a key area of ​​the strategy to strengthen the European logistics network, showed particularly strong results.

Thai Airways strengthens position in Scandinavia with new GSSA partner.

HWF Scandinavia and Finland, a subsidiary of ECS Group, has been appointed as the exclusive general sales agent (GSSA) for cargo for Thai Airways in Sweden and Denmark, effective 15 May 2025. The partnership covers daily wide-body flights from Stockholm and Copenhagen to Bangkok, providing cargo connections between the Nordic countries, Southeast Asia and Australia.
