Nippon Express Vietnam launches rail service between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Nippon Express (Vietnam) Co., Ltd. (NX Vietnam), a subsidiary of NIPPON EXPRESS HOLDINGS, INC., launched a new rail service linking Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City on June 21. With Vietnam’s rapid economic growth fueling increased logistics needs, the new service will be an important element in effectively connecting the country’s manufacturing and consumer centers. Switching to rail transportation will help solve the problem of constant traffic congestion and reduce the costs and time of transporting goods.

KTZ cargo transportation increased to 122 million tons in the first half of 2024.

Based on the results of January-June 2024, NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC transported more than 122 million tons of cargo by rail. Domestic transportation increased by 2.1% compared to the same period last year and amounted to over 81.5 million tons, while more than 41 million tons were exported. Among the transported goods, coal occupies a significant place – 47.5 million tons, of which 34.8 million tons are accounted for by domestic transportation.

HHLA opened the first hydrogen station in the port of Hamburg.

Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) has launched a pioneering test field for hydrogen-powered port logistics at the Container Terminal Tollerort (CTT) in the Port of Hamburg. This includes the inauguration of a hydrogen refuelling station, marking a significant step towards decarbonising port operations. Angela Titzrath, CEO of HHLA, along with other key officials, celebrated the launch by successfully refuelling a hydrogen-powered tractor unit. This new infrastructure supports the transition to emissions-free logistics by enabling various heavy goods vehicles and port equipment to be refuelled with green hydrogen.

Launch of seven new railway routes across Europe.

Seven new rail connections have been announced across Europe in July 2024, significantly improving the continent’s logistics infrastructure. MOVE Intermodal has launched an intermodal service between Venlo in the Netherlands and Novara in Italy, providing six departures per week. METRANS has launched a new regular service between Duisburg and Poznań, which now includes semi-trailer transport, while Trans Italia and Tramesa have launched a signature train connecting Valencia and Madrid.

Kazakhstan ratified three transport agreements with China.

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a law ratifying three transport agreements with China. One of them concerns the development of the Trans-Caspian international transport route, including China-Europe container trains. This document provides for the creation of a joint working group on cargo transportation through the Middle Corridor.

Olzhas Bektenov and CITIC Group discussed infrastructure projects.

Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov discussed with the head of the CITIC Group Xi Guohua the pace of implementation of joint infrastructure projects. At the meeting, issues of developing Kazakh-Chinese cooperation in the fields of energy and industry were discussed. Currently, with the participation of CITIC Group, major projects are being implemented to reconstruct roads of national importance, including the Taldykorgan – Ust-Kamenogorsk and Karaganda – Balkhash highways, where construction work is carried out on 24 sections with a total length of 1,131 km.
