Contargo launches new rail service between Poland and France.

The logistics group Contargo announced the launch of a new intermodal service, Poland France Shuttle (PFS), connecting Poland and France on two routes: Dourges–Krzewie and Dourges–Kutno. The first route will begin with a weekly service between the LDCT terminal in Dourges and the Miratrans Terminal in Krzewie, while the second will provide regular service across central Poland using PCC’s partner network.

Lemtrans and Rail Trans Investment have completed the first stage of construction of a container terminal in Fastiv.

Ukraine’s largest private railcar operator, Lemtrans Group, and Rail Trans Investment, have completed the first phase of construction of the Fastiv Container Terminal. The project includes the construction of two new railway lines and a modern container yard designed to store up to 1,350 TEUs. The terminal, covering over 13 hectares, is already capable of handling up to 19,000 TEUs per year, with future capacity expected to increase to 55,000 TEUs.

German exports fall due to US tariffs, but industry shows growth.

In July, German exports fell by 0.6% compared to the previous month, primarily due to a 7.9% drop in shipments to the United States due to tariffs. This represents a significant challenge for Europe’s largest economy, where foreign trade plays a key role: in 2024, bilateral trade with the United States was expected to reach €253 billion, making it Germany’s largest trading partner.

CPK is preparing large-scale tenders for a megaproject in Poland.

Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK), implementing the national megaproject to build a new airport and high-speed rail network in Poland, will hold approximately 100 tenders in 2026–2028. In 2026 alone, their total value will be approximately 40 billion zlotys (over 9 billion euros), half of which will be awarded in the second quarter. The largest contracts are related to the construction of the Warsaw–Łódź High-Speed ​​Railway (HSR) and airport infrastructure.

Turkish ports increased cargo turnover in January–August 2025.

According to data from the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs under the Ministry of Transport of Turkey, the country’s seaports handled 366.79 million tonnes of cargo in the first eight months of 2025, a 3% increase compared to the same period last year. In August, 43.94 million tonnes were handled (up 2.7%), of which 11.84 million tonnes were exported (up 2%), 20.77 million tonnes were imported (up 4.6%), and 5.97 million tonnes were cabotage (up 5.7%). Transit volumes decreased to 5.34 million tonnes (-5.7%).

Port of Rijeka opens new container terminal Rijeka Gateway.

The first commercial container ship with a capacity of 15,000 TEU has docked at the new Rijeka Gateway terminal in the Port of Rijeka in Croatia, marking the start of its operations. The press conference held to mark the event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure Oleg Butkovic, Executive Director of the Port of Rijeka Denis Vukorepa and representatives of the concessionaire – APM Terminals and ENNA Group. The new terminal has the capacity to handle up to 650,000 TEU per year, and after the completion of the second stage, its capacity will exceed one million TEU.

ÖBB expands cargo terminal in Vienna by 44%.

Austrian rail operator ÖBB has begun the final expansion phase of the Vienna South freight hub, which will increase the terminal’s capacity by 44% from the current 380,000 to 547,000 TEU by the end of 2026. The hub, which has been in operation since 2016, handles intermodal cargo between road and rail and is located at a strategic intersection of the Pottendorf line, the S1 motorway and three pan-European rail corridors.

HHLA launched the Blue Port anniversary project in Hamburg.

The logistics group HHLA has officially opened the Blue Port light installation, which has been painting the Port of Hamburg in blue tones every two years since 2008. This year, the project is dedicated to the 140th anniversary of the company and symbolizes its international network. The official start was given in the evening with the participation of HHLA CEO Angela Titzrath, Hamburg Senator for Economic Affairs Melanie Leonhard and the artist Michael Batz.
