The Port of Riga will invest in infrastructure development and digitalization in 2025.

The Freeport of Riga Council has approved an investment plan for 2025, according to which EUR 7.43 million will be invested in the development of the port, which is 17% more than last year. The funds will be used to modernize the port infrastructure, digitalize and implement strategically important projects. As noted by the Chairman of the Council Sandis Steins, the port is actively working on creating modern logistics and production areas, attracting investors, but the current infrastructure needs to be modernized to meet the requirements of large projects.

Kazakhstan and RHENUS discussed the development of logistics and the construction of a terminal in Aktau.

Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan Marat Karabayev held a meeting with RHENUS representative Heinrich Kerstgens, at which the parties discussed the prospects for new Kazakh-German projects in logistics. The focus was on the modernization of warehouse infrastructure and the expansion of multimodal transportation to increase the country’s transit potential.

Consortiums for the construction of Rail Baltica have been selected in Estonia.

The tender for the construction of the Estonian section of Rail Baltica has identified two international consortiums that will implement key stages of the project. These contracts ensure full coverage of the passenger line in Estonia, bringing Rail Baltica closer to the launch of a full-fledged railway corridor between Tallinn and Warsaw by 2030.

Georgian ports increased cargo turnover in 2024.

According to the results of 2024, the cargo turnover of Georgian ports reached 15.5 million tons, which is 5.8% more than in 2023. The total number of vessel calls was 1,683 units. Of these, 38.5% were general cargo carriers, 30.1% were liquid bulk carriers, 22.5% were container ships, and the remaining 8.9% included dry cargo ships, tugs and specialized vessels.

Environment, innovation, development: the Port of Rotterdam presented its annual report.

The Port of Rotterdam Authority has presented its annual report for 2024, entitled “Navigating to a sustainable future”. Despite geopolitical and economic challenges, the port has demonstrated stability and continued to develop actively. Total investments increased by 11% to €320.6 million. The funds are directed not only towards modernizing the infrastructure, but also towards projects to strengthen social and environmental sustainability.

Tokayev announced large-scale transport projects in Kazakhstan.

At a meeting of the National Kurultai, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev presented plans for the development of the country’s transit and transport infrastructure. Among the key projects are the completion of the Dostyk-Moiynty railway section and the bypass line of the Almaty station, the launch of the new Kyzylzhar-Moiynty project, as well as the creation of a container hub in Aktau and an international airport in the Khorgos-Eastern Gate SEZ. In addition, new airports will appear in the resort areas of Zaysan, Katon-Karagay and Kenderli.

The Węglowe pier is being reconstructed in the port of Gdansk.

The Port of Gdańsk Authority has signed a contract with the general contractor Budimex for the reconstruction of the Węglowe quay in the Inner Port. The project, worth PLN 127 million, will be completed by the end of 2027 and will make the port more attractive to logistics operators and carriers. The work will be carried out in two stages: first, 252 meters of the quay will be modernized, then another 294 meters. It is planned to build a new reinforced concrete platform, crane tracks, water supply and drainage systems, as well as deepen the water area to 11.2 m.

Kedentransservice and China Xinjiang commercial logistics will create a logistics hub in Almaty.

JSC Kedentransservice and China Xinjiang commercial logistics (Group) Co. Ltd have agreed to establish a joint venture in Almaty. The new project envisages the construction of a modern logistics complex with an area of ​​500 hectares and a capacity of 350 thousand TEU per year. It will include a railway terminal, warehouse and multi-temperature zones, areas for vehicles, bulk cargo and grain storage facilities.

Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Georgia strengthen cooperation in the Middle Corridor.

On March 4, a trilateral meeting was held in Baku between the Chairman of the Azerbaijan Railways Rovshan Rustamov, the Head of the Georgian Railways David Peradze and the Chairman of the Board of the Kazakhstan Railways Nurlan Sauranbayev. The talks were held as part of the events of the International Association of Legal Entities “Trans-Caspian International Transport Route” (TITR).
