Completion of construction: a new multimodal terminal in the suburbs of Belgrade.

The construction of a multimodal terminal in the suburbs of Belgrade, occupying 82 hectares between the Batajnica railway station and the E75 highway, is being completed. This terminal is equipped with two railway tracks, automobile access roads, a container area, an administrative building and other services. It will become the starting point for the delivery of containers from various cities in Serbia and European centers, which will be transported by road to recipients within a radius of about 100 km.

Baltic Ground Services extends its contract with Freebird Airlines.

Baltic Ground Services (BGS), a leading provider of aviation services, has extended its contract with Freebird Airlines, a leisure airline registered in Turkey and Malta. Under the renewed agreement, BGS will continue supplying aviation fuel to Freebird at airports in Tallinn (Estonia), Kaunas (Lithuania), and Ostrava (Czech Republic) for another year, effective from April 1, 2024.

The Port of Antwerp-Bruges is expanding the RoRo terminal at the South Canal dock.

Port of Antwerp-Bruges has recently achieved a significant milestone in the expansion of the Southern Canal Dock, with the completion of a crucial phase. Through the efforts of Belgian dredging company DEME, nearly 1 million m³ of dredged material was moved, resulting in the creation of an additional 600 metres of quayside space for ICO’s RoRo ships.

Metrans is expanding its terminal in Slovakia.

Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG’s rail subsidiary, Metrans, has enlarged its hub terminal in Dunajská Streda, Slovakia, by approximately five hectares. This expansion provides customers with enhanced storage and transportation possibilities at one of Central Europe’s key intermodal hubs. The move comes as Metrans addresses the rising demand for storage and transport services in the region, offering a terminal area now spanning 326,000 m², equivalent to about 45 soccer fields. The additional 50,000 m² expansion area will primarily accommodate container repair and storage, complemented by the construction of a new container washing facility.

China and Kazakhstan are discussing the creation of a container hub in the port of Aktau.

Representatives of Jiangsu Province (PRC), together with the State Committee for Development and Reform of the province, visited the seaport of Aktau in Kazakhstan. The discussion concerned the participation of the port of Lianyungang in a joint venture with the companies of the group of JSC NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy for the construction and operation of a container hub in the port of Aktau.

DP World is expanding its presence in Romania, strengthening its European trade hub.

DP World’s expansion in Romania signals a significant stride in bolstering the nation’s role as a pivotal hub for European trade. With a €65 million investment, two new facilities have been unveiled in Constanta, the largest container port on the Black Sea. These include a 5-hectare cargo terminal catering to heavy, large, and complex cargo, along with a ‘roll-on, roll-off’ terminal capable of handling up to 80,000 vehicles annually. Additionally, a €50 million multi-transport platform is slated to open in Constanta by 2025. Another €21 million investment has resulted in the establishment of an 8-hectare intermodal logistics hub in Aiud, fortifying connectivity between rail and road networks.
