DB Cargo announced the launch of one of the largest transformations in its history. The reorganization concept received a positive assessment from independent experts and was approved by the European Commission and the Management Board and Supervisory Board of Deutsche Bahn AG in March. This decision lays the foundation for comprehensive changes aimed at achieving economic sustainability and strengthening the company’s position in the European rail freight market.
The transformation focuses on four strategic areas: prioritizing the development of European rail transport, modernizing the carload shipping system with new production models, a comprehensive cost-reduction and productivity improvement program, and a shift in corporate culture toward greater accountability. Particular attention is being paid to optimizing operational processes through digitalization and implementing artificial intelligence-based solutions to enhance manageability and efficiency.
Despite challenging market conditions, DB Cargo intends to consolidate its status as a reliable and economically sustainable logistics partner for industry and business, while simultaneously ensuring long-term prospects for its employees. The reorganization is intended to increase the company’s competitiveness and adapt it to the new requirements of the European transport market.
