LTG Infra has terminated the contract for the construction of the Rail Baltica bridge over the Neris River.

LTG Infra, the Lithuanian company responsible for the LTG Group’s railway infrastructure, has decided to terminate its contract with general contractor Rizzani de Eccher for the construction of the Rail Baltica bridge over the Neris River. This decision follows a comprehensive assessment of work progress, the contractor’s financial health, and its fulfillment of contractual obligations. The company emphasized that resuming construction is a priority to ensure the strategic project remains on schedule.

According to LTG Infra, the company had been monitoring the contractor’s financial stability since 2023; however, serious issues – specifically schedule delays and a failure to meet financial obligations to subcontractors – have recently been identified. LTG stated that while the contractor was given the opportunity to present a recovery plan, the proposed measures were deemed insufficient to justify continuing the partnership. Once a new contractor is selected, the remaining work – including concreting the piers and the bridge deck – could be completed in just over a year.

Despite the situation regarding the bridge, the implementation of Rail Baltica in Lithuania continues. Contracts have already been signed for the construction of a 114-kilometer section of the line between Kaunas and Panevėžys, with 8.8 kilometers of European-gauge track already laid. Design work is also underway for nearly 100 kilometers of the line between the Polish border and Kaunas, and construction is set to begin soon on the section extending to the Latvian border. LTG emphasized that Rail Baltica remains the largest railway initiative in the history of the Baltic states and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2030.
