Montenegro and Kazakhstan discussed connecting the Port of Bar to the Trans-Caspian route.

During a meeting in Astana, President Jakov Milatović and Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov discussed prospects for integrating the Montenegrin port of Bar into the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR). The parties emphasized that such a move could strengthen transport links between Central Asia and Europe and unlock new opportunities for logistics development.

The talks highlighted Montenegro’s potential as a strategic gateway to the Adriatic Sea. Connecting the port of Bar to the TITR infrastructure is viewed as a step toward establishing a new multimodal corridor capable of linking Central Asian nations with Southern and Central Europe, thereby expanding supply routes and enhancing the resilience of international transport chains.

Beyond logistics, Kazakhstan and Montenegro discussed strengthening trade and economic cooperation, particularly in the agro-industrial sector. Kazakhstan expressed its readiness to increase exports of wheat, flour, oilseeds, and value-added processed products to the Montenegrin market. Spanning approximately 11,000 kilometers, the TITR currently connects China and Europe via Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey, combining rail and maritime transport across the Caspian Sea.
