Poland expands multimodal corridors: New routes connect the country with Rotterdam and Rijeka.

Two new multimodal routes have been launched in Poland, strengthening the country’s connectivity with seaports on the Adriatic and North Seas. The Polish logistics company Miratrans has established a shuttle train service connecting a terminal in Krzew (Łódź Voivodeship) with the Port of Rotterdam. The route facilitates the transport of containers and semi-trailers up to 4 meters in height, utilizing two pairs of trains per week; this initiative reinforces the northern freight corridor between Poland and the Netherlands.

Concurrently, the operator Baltic Rail – a member of the Rail World Group – has inaugurated a new multimodal route linking the Croatian Port of Rijeka with terminals in the Polish cities of Wrocław and Katowice, as well as a terminal in Paskov (Czech Republic), situated near the Polish border. This line serves as an alternative to the traditional route via the Slovenian Port of Koper; it operates one to two pairs of trains weekly and aims to facilitate the redistribution of freight flows within the Central European region.

According to operators, multimodal transport in Poland continues to demonstrate steady growth: in 2025, the volume of such transport increased by 2.6%, while freight turnover rose by 2.8% compared to the previous year. This expansion of the route network reflects the growing demand for rail-sea logistics solutions, which enable the diversification of supply chains across the Baltic, North, and Adriatic corridors, thereby enhancing the resilience of European supply networks.
