The ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) has opened an upgraded container terminal in Přerov–Horní Moštěnice, effectively doubling the facility’s footprint. The modernization project expanded the site by approximately 17,100 m² to a total area of around 36,000 m², thereby eliminating bottlenecks and enhancing cargo handling efficiency.
Thanks to infrastructure expansion, improved rail connections, and the introduction of modern transshipment equipment, handling capacity has increased from 1,300 to 3,000 TEU. This enables higher train frequency and greater flexibility for intermodal transport customers – including the handling of containers and semi-trailers – as well as planned service expansions to the ports of Koper and Rijeka.
The upgrade reinforces Přerov’s role as a key distribution hub in Central Moravia and a vital node in the international network. RCG emphasizes that the terminal’s development facilitates the shift of freight from road to rail, reducing CO₂ emissions and road congestion, while strengthening the position of environmentally sustainable logistics in Europe.
