Transfera and Rail Cargo Group have launched an intermodal rail service between Budapest and Belgrade.

Logistics companies Transfera and Rail Cargo Group have launched a new intermodal rail service connecting Budapest and Belgrade. Launched in May 2023, the route operates two scheduled departures per week between the BILK terminal in the Hungarian capital and the Batajnica terminal in Serbia. This new service aims to strengthen the transport corridor between the two countries and expand regional freight transport capabilities.

The companies emphasize that the launch of this rail link is part of a strategy to develop environmentally sustainable logistics solutions. Intermodal transport reduces carbon dioxide emissions compared to traditional road transport and enables clients to transition to “greener” supply chains. Thus, the project supports the drive toward decarbonizing freight logistics in Europe.

Beyond its environmental benefits, the new service addresses current challenges in the international road freight market, such as driver shortages, a complex regulatory environment, and industry instability. The companies note that rail transport enhances delivery predictability and reduces reliance on issues typical of the road transport sector, offering a more resilient alternative for clients.
