TX Logistik and Nurminen Logistics have launched a regular rail service between Italy and Sweden.

Freight transport operator TX Logistik, part of the Mercitalia group of Italian railways (FS Group), together with the Finnish logistics company Nurminen Logistics, has launched a regular train service between the terminals of Castelguelfo in the province of Parma (Italy) and Frevi in the Örebro district (Sweden). The new route is part of FS Group’s expansion strategy to develop the north-south corridor of the European freight transport system.

The weekly block train travels through five countries – Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, and Sweden. The service was made possible by the coordination of two FS Group operators – Mercitalia Rail and TX Logistik. Mercitalia provides traction on the section from Castelguelfo to Chiasso, while TX Logistik operates the service further through Basel, Hamburg, Padborg, the Öresund Bridge, and Malmö.

The journey takes approximately two days. Departures from Frevi operate on Thursdays, and from Castelguelfo on Mondays. The trains, over 500 meters long, primarily carry containers containing food, beverages, ceramic tiles, pulp, wood, paper, and metal products. The 2,500-kilometer route is a record for TX Logistik’s European network.
