According to the results of 2024, the volume of cargo transportation along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) reached 4.5 million tons, which is 62% more than in 2023. This was reported by the Ministry of Finance of Kazakhstan, noting that the route is becoming increasingly popular against the backdrop of growing trade activity between Asia and Europe.
Stadler Bussnang and Stadler Rheintal have completed their merger, forming a new legal entity – Stadler Rail Schweiz. After the merger is legally completed, both production sites will continue to operate as usual, with the Rheintal plant receiving the status of a branch.
Four key Polish seaports – Gdansk, Gdynia, Szczecin and Świnoujście – signed a Partnership Agreement on 24 June 2025, aimed at strengthening their positions in European and global logistics. The appointment of a person with deep experience in logistics and the public sector is perceived not just as a personnel decision, but as a strategic step in strengthening one of the key sectors of the economy.
In Flanders and Brussels, updated Viapass toll rates for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes are coming into force. The toll amount depends on the weight (three categories: 3.5–12 t, 12–32 t, over 32 t) and the emission class – from Euro 0 to Euro 6. Zero-emission trucks (ZEV) equipped with an active on-board unit are still exempt from the toll. In Wallonia, the rates remain unchanged, having been updated earlier in 2025.
Ellerman City Liners has opened a new domestic rail connection between Lodz and Gdynia, enhancing the efficiency and reach of its Polish shortsea service iPEX. The project, implemented in partnership with Spedcont and Bahnoperator, is an important milestone in the development of intermodal transport in Poland and Northern Europe. The new line directly connects the Spedcont terminal in Lodz with the GCT container terminal in Gdynia, providing an end-to-end solution from rail to sea.
German company DB Cargo, which operates in 18 European countries, is launching a major transformation of its logistics network in order to increase the efficiency and flexibility of rail freight transport. More than 60% of the company’s trains cross national borders, making DB Cargo a key player in the transport of raw materials, consumer goods and finished goods across the continent. To strengthen cross-border transport, the company is integrating 12 national units into a single decentralized network, in which operational decisions will be made closer to regional markets.
The joint Kazakh-German venture Skyhansa is implementing a large-scale project to build an international cargo and passenger airport near the Khorgos ICBC in the Zhetisu region. The decision was made on the instructions of the President of Kazakhstan and supported by the Government of the country. The new hub will be built in three stages on the territory of the Khorgos – Eastern Gate SEZ, taking into account ICAO standards. By 2027, it is planned to commission a passenger terminal, a fuel storage facility for JET A-1 (up to 200 thousand tons per year) and a cargo terminal with auto and rail infrastructure.
From September 2025, the Kazakh company MCM (Middle Corridor Maritime) will begin operating regular ferry services on the route Kuryk (Kazakhstan) – Alyat (Azerbaijan) – Kuryk. The new vessels will be managed by the company and will sail under the flag of Kazakhstan for the first time, providing 8-9 services per month. One ferry will be able to transport up to 54 trucks, which will significantly increase cargo flow across the Caspian Sea and create a sustainable logistics channel between the two countries.
