Kazakhstan’s transport sector grew by 12.8% in the first quarter of 2026, with the volume of services reaching 2.9 trillion tenge.

According to the results of January–March 2026, the transport sector of the Republic of Kazakhstan demonstrated stable positive dynamics. The physical volume index amounted to 112.8%, and the volume of services rendered increased to 2.9 trillion tenge, compared to 2.4 trillion tenge for the same period last year. During this period, 239.8 million tons of freight were transported within the country, an 8% increase year-on-year, while passenger traffic increased by 9.3%, reaching 483.7 million passengers.

DP World has launched a carbon credit scheme at the Port of Southampton, allowing customers to reduce Scope 3 emissions through terminal operations.

DP World announced the launch of a new carbon inset certificate scheme at its container terminal at the Port of Southampton. For the first time, this allows customers to count emissions reductions achieved at the port toward their supply chain decarbonization goals. Certificates are generated by reducing emissions through the use of HVO biofuels, electrifying port infrastructure, and generating renewable electricity, delivering significant CO₂ savings.

Romania has acquired the Giurgiulesti port operator from the EBRD, an asset that will strengthen Constanta’s role as a regional hub.

The National Company Constanta Sea Ports Authority has completed the acquisition of ICS Danube Logistics, the operator of the Giurgiulesti International Port, from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The agreement provides for further investments in the development of the port’s infrastructure, increasing its throughput capacity, and strengthening its role in the Black Sea region and the Danube Basin.

BGS is expanding its partnership with Wizz Air at Baltic airports, with refuelling services now covering four stations.

Baltic Ground Services, an international ground handling and refuelling provider within the Avia Solutions Group, has strengthened its long-standing partnership with Wizz Air in the Baltics. The partnership covers aircraft refuelling services at Tallinn Airport, Vilnius Airport, Kaunas Airport, and Palanga Airport, where BGS provides operational support for the carrier’s flights.

KTZ and Polish Railways have increased their transportation volumes by 1.5 times as the parties strengthen their cooperation on the Trans-Caucasian Railway (TITR).

A working meeting between Talgat Aldybergenov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, and Alan Beroud, CEO of Polish State Railways and Chairman of the Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies, took place at the Kazakhstan Temir Zholy building. The talks were held as part of the anniversary events of the Organisation for Cooperation between Railways and focused on developing bilateral cooperation and strengthening ties within the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.

ÖBB is modernizing the historic Franz-Josefs-Bahn line between Vienna and the Czech border.

Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) has announced a major modernization of the Franz-Josefs-Bahn line, which connects the Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof in Vienna with Gmünd on the Czech border. As part of the project, approximately 400 overhead line masts will be replaced and around 21 km of new track will be laid on the section between Absdorf-Hippersdorf and Limberg-Maissau; an additional 3 km of track will be constructed between Limberg-Maissau and Eggenburg. Plans also include the refurbishment of bridges and drainage systems, as well as the replacement of the pedestrian bridge at Sigmundsherberg station.

In Astana, participants in the TITR agreed on plans for route development and the digitalization of transportation.

On April 23–24, 2026, meetings of the Working Group, the Board, and the General Assembly of the International Association “Trans-Caspian International Transport Route” were held in Astana. Participants were presented with a report on the Association’s activities for 2025, which confirmed the route’s steady positive growth trajectory; they also discussed transport plans for 2026 and measures for their implementation.

KTZ and Afghanistan discussed the growth of transportation volumes and the development of railway cooperation.

In Astana, on the sidelines of a meeting of the Organization for Cooperation of Railways, a working meeting took place between Talgat Aldybergenov, Chairman of the Management Board of KTZ, and Sahebzada Mawlawi Muhammad Ishaq, Afghanistan’s Deputy Minister of Public Works for Railway Transport. The parties discussed prospects for bilateral cooperation in the fields of freight transportation and infrastructure development.
