The FTIA has signed a design contract for Rail Nordica to develop a railway corridor between Finland and Sweden.

The Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency (FTIA) has signed an agreement worth €18 million with the Pohjantähti consortium – comprising the companies AFRY and Sweco – to carry out design work as part of the Rail Nordica initiative. The project is scheduled for the 2026–2030 period and involves planning a railway connection utilizing the European standard gauge of 1,435 mm, which will link Haparanda in Sweden with the northern regions of Finland.

The official launch of the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway will take place on June 2.

The official commissioning ceremony for the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars (BTK) railway line will take place on June 2 at the Akhalkalaki railway station in Georgia. Although the route has been operating in test mode since 2017, its official status as an international transport project is only now being formally established.

Deutsche Bahn has begun construction of a new freight railway line in southwestern Germany.

The German railway company Deutsche Bahn (DB) has commenced construction of a new freight train line between Offenburg and Müllheim in the Markgräflerland region. This project is part of the modernization of the Karlsruhe–Basel section and forms a segment of the European Rotterdam–Genoa freight corridor. Two additional tracks will be laid alongside the A5 motorway; consequently, the Rhine Valley Railway will feature four tracks in the future, thereby enabling an increase in train traffic volume.
