Port of Rotterdam launches innovative Container Exchange Route to enhance logistics efficiency

The Container Exchange Route (CER) on the Maasvlakte has officially commenced operations after an extensive preliminary phase, marking a significant milestone in enhancing the container infrastructure at the Port of Rotterdam. The 17-kilometre-long closed road network interconnects key container terminals, including Rotterdam World Gateway (RWG), Hutchison Ports ECT Rotterdam’s Delta terminal, and QTerminals Kramer Rotterdam’s terminals and depots. This innovative system facilitates diverse forms of transport, such as Multi Trailer Systems (MTS), Terminal Tractor Units with chassis (TT), and conventional trucks, utilized by affiliated parties through various carriers.

Maersk and Inditex collaborate to significantly slash greenhouse gas emissions in maritime logistics.

Madrid/Copenhagen – Inditex, the parent company of renowned fashion brands such as Zara and Massimo Dutti, has joined forces with the freight group Maersk to significantly reduce its overall greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from maritime logistics. This reduction will be achieved by integrating alternative fuels on all inbound routes with the carrier. Through the ECO Delivery Ocean program, Maersk replaces fossil fuels on its ships with green fuels such as green methanol or second-generation biodiesel derived from waste feedstocks. This initiative is anticipated to result in an estimated reduction of over 80% in GHG emissions compared to conventional sources.

Maersk secures historic green methanol supply deal, paving the way for low-emission operations

Maersk has entered into a commercially viable long-term supply agreement with the Chinese company Goldwind, a global leader in clean energy. The agreement covers annual volumes of 500,000 tons, facilitating low-carbon operations for the first 12 large methanol-enabled Maersk vessels currently on order. The partnership extends into the next decade, marking the first large-scale green methanol supply agreement for the global shipping industry.
