KTZ increased freight traffic volumes by 4% in the first 11 months of 2025.

In January-November 2025, freight traffic volumes on the Kazakhstan Temir Zholy network reached 287.9 ​​million tonnes, a 4% increase compared to the same period last year. This growth was driven by both export routes and the domestic market: export shipments totaled 80.2 million tonnes (+6.5%), while domestic shipments increased to 161.4 million tonnes, up 2.5% year-on-year.

The first meeting of heads of seaports and logistics centers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states was held in Aktau. The event was organized by the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan in fulfillment of the instructions of the Head of State and became an important platform for dialogue between representatives of the transport and logistics industries of the SCO countries.

China, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan have provided funding for the construction of a new international railway.

The China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway Joint Project Company and a syndicate of banks from the People’s Republic of China signed an agreement to finance the construction of a new international railway line connecting the three countries. According to the Kyrgyz government, the total budget for this strategic infrastructure project is estimated at $4.7 billion.

The Barcelona Combiconnect terminal enters the testing phase and is preparing to launch intermodal operations.

The Barcelona Combiconnect intermodal terminal in La Llagosta, near Barcelona, ​​has completed the final stage of construction and has entered the initial testing phase. Trial train movements will begin soon, and a fully loaded test train from Antwerp will arrive at the terminal in early January. The testing will include unloading containers and semi-trailers, loading new units, and sending the train back to Belgium.

EU ports maintained cargo turnover volumes below pre-COVID peaks in 2024.

In 2024, seaports across the European Union handled approximately 3.4 billion tonnes of cargo, which is broadly in line with 2023 levels but remains below the record 2019 figures of 3.6 billion tonnes, according to Eurostat. Bulk and liquid cargo, primarily oil, gas, and coal, accounted for the bulk of transshipment, confirming the continued role of EU ports in facilitating energy and raw material flows.

RB Rail AS has received updated tender proposals from four bidders for the Rail Baltica project. Participants include Hitachi Rail GTS Deutschland GmbH from Germany, as well as the SKGN Baltics consortium, which includes Siemens Mobility OY Latvian Branch, Siemens Mobility GmbH, GRK Suomi OY, NRC Group Finland OY, and Kontron Transportation GmbH, representing Latvia, Germany, Finland, and Austria.
